Scope and Contents

These files document the origin and development of the Friends program at the museum. Subjects covered are Friends Board minutes, committee meetings, financial records, study societies, tribute funds, benefits, travel, Speakers Bureau. Scrapbooks contain clippings, publicity, invitations, etc. relating to Friends events.

Biographical / Historical

During the years represented by these files Martha O'Neil was the administrator of the Friends Office. Her job titles were: Assistant Secretary of the Friends, 1955; Secretary of the Friends, 1956-1964; Executive Secretary of the Friends, 1965-1979; Executive Administrator of the Friends, 1980-1981.

Administrative records of the Friends of the museum, organized int three series: I. Subject files. II. Friends publications. III. Friends scrapbooks (14). Administrative subject files arranged alphabetically; other material arranged chronologically.

Custodial History

Files were created and maintained in the Friends Office, an independent office. Later the operations of this office came under the Development Office. The earliest records were transferred to the Museum Archives upon the retirement of Martha O'Neil in 1982.
