The following people have held the position of administrative head of the Education Department: Mary Powell, Supervisor of Education, 1923-1960; Jacquelin Ambler, Supervisor of Education, 1961-1966; Thelma R. Stockho, Acting Supervisor of Education, 1966-68, and Acting Curator of Education, 1974-75, 1978; Charles C. Savage III, Curator of Education, 1968-1973; Jay Gates, Curator of Education, 1976-1977; Nora Downs Wiseman, Curator of Education, 1979-1980, and Director of Education, 1981-1984; Elizabeth Vallance, Director of Education, 1985-2000; Stephanie Sigala, Acting Director of Education, 2000-2002; William "Bill" Appleton, Assistant Director and Head of Education, 2002-2013; Amanda Thompson Rundahl, Director of Learning and Engagement, 2014-present.

There have been several different job titles associated with this position. Arranged chronologically, then by subject.
Custodial History
Records are maintained by the administrative head of the Education Department: Supervisor of Education, Curator of Education, Director of Education. Transferred to the Museum Archives when files are considered non-current.
Processing Information
Administrative records were rehoused in letter-sized document cases boxes from 2022-2023. This project included a large-scale reprocessing of files. Legacy adminstrative history may contain outdated, perjorative, or offensive terms in files taken directly from these records. Historical terms may be retained in the context of certain collection description with contemporary terms in parentheses.
